Only enough room for a couple this issue but keep them coming. Queries191: Pike Construction Philip Collman Does anyone have references to:
2. How the pikes were actually made? (turned, planed or whatever) 3. Measurements of period pikes, (aren't they double tapered?) RepliesRalph Sneyd Further to the query on Ralph Sneyd/Snead in 'the' first issue of the English Civil War Times may I add the following. The Sneyd family used to live on their estate up until the early 20th century at the village of Keele to the west of Newcastle - Under Lyme. The current Keele Hall, of Victorian origin, is now part of the University of Keele. The University Library contains a recent Master of Arts Dissertion on the Sneyd Family with a good chapter on their exploits during the Civil war. Sadly I can't remember the author's name but a request to the Library should uncover the details required.
