The Darwin papers in the Nottinghamshire Archives contain several interesting documents. The earliest document of note is a certificate confirming the appointment of William Darwin as yeoman of His Majesty's Armourey at Greenwich. This Office was granted to him in 1613 and confirmed by Charles I in 1625. The certificate contains details of his salary, method of pay ment and the cost of a livery coat. The other three items of interest consist of:
Secondly, a hastily scribbled letter from Francis Hawley to his new Regiment. And lastly, a petition to General Monk which, though not dated, was I believe written about 1659 to 1660. These three documents are transcribed with the kind permission of the Principal Archivist, Nottinghamshire Archivies Office.
