Captain Carlo Fantom In his recent book on Essex's cavalry [the excellent 'The Chief Strength Of The Army'] Alan Turton makes mention of that well-known Croatian mercenary; Carlo Fantom. He was, it appears, wounded at Edgehill. I thought he was supposed to be a 'Hard' man. What went wrong? Perhaps we should be told. John Cruso John Cruso's work MILITARIE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CAVALL'RIE is always stated to be the standard work on Cavalry before and during the war. I gather that it was reprinted in 1644. Does any one know anything about him?
