Raised in 1643 to serve as the garrison of Lichfield though some may have been drawn out to take part in Prince Rupert's relief of Newark in 1644. A continent was certainly drawn out and largely destroyed at Naseby in 1645. Sir Richard being mortally wounded there command of what remained of the regiment passed to Colonel Harvey Bagot. The colours as shown were described by Richard Symonds and are blue with the several Captains distinguished by varying numbers of gold mullets (heraldic stars look rather different) the most likely colour for the men's uniforms is blue since the garrison technically came under the authority of Lord Loughborough (cheerfully know as "Blind Harry Hastings') whose Midlands soldiers were mainly dressed in this colour. As a garrison unit it is likely that all soldiers carried muskets and basted a high proportion of Firelocks.
