Editorial

by Dave Ryan and Hawk Norton

So, here it is, ISSUE 2. At no time did we think we wouldn't make it, we are just surprised it was on time and not filled with illustrations and the thoughts of Stuart Reid (essential though they may be).

The reaponse to the first issue has been very good. The print run was insufficient and we had to print another 200. Subscriptions are coming in thick and fast but please pester your local shop or seller to stock it. If you are in a re-enactment Regiment, please agitate about it from within - please mention it, and there is quite a thrill seeing your 'name' in Print.

Curiously, the reverse of what we had anticipated has happened. We have been flooded with long articles but very few short length notes & queries. Keep everything coming and do not feel afraid of sending something in, your typing can't be worse than mine.

ISSUE 3 - There is a strong chance that we will be able to increase the number of pages from 16 to 20. This is primarilly due to sales but also on the number of contributions and, more importantly, advertising. Whether this happens, and is maintained, also depends very much on the time we both have. I am an advocate of the smaller, frequent issue rather than a quarterly or a yearly.

The reason for this idea is that ECW N&Q relies heavily on generating enthusiasm and maintaining it - fiery pieces dashed off in the heat of controversey or indignation always make good copy. There will be another Parliamentarian Biography, more obscure battles and Royalist regiments, a piece on Horses during the War, the usual odds and ends, plus the start of the Responses to the Query section.

Also a brief questionnaire so we can see exactly what you feel about the whole project. More detailed letters gratefully received.

Next Editorial we shall start to stir a few things up rather than expound our own ideas about ECW N&Q.
