Tower of Maas

The Dungeon Architect

By Mark Kibbe

This military structure was built before the Banishment. During the God Wars it was occupied by Human soldiers who performed raids on Grom's advanced scouts. Eventually the structure was assaulted and destroyed. The sixty foot spire was toppled and the upper buildings were set afire and left in ruins. For centuries it remained vacant.

Recently, the ruins of the Tower of Maas were discovered in the rocky lands east of Hampton. Although the above ground tower and structures have been destroyed, explorers found an entrance to the underground chambers. After recording their findings, they immediately returned to the civilized area. In addition to locating the structure, they found evidence that wild animals and/or monsters were living in the underground rooms. As no living soul had wandered into the structure in centuries, the Hampton government decided to hire adventurers to explore the ruins.

The Referee can either have the Characters stumble on the ruins themselves or have the Hampton government hire them to explore the underground chambers. Payment for the quest should be based upon what the Characters find. Also, the government officials should be wary about handing out advance payment due to their mistrust of adventurers.

Upper Structures

The upper structures have all be destroyed. If the Characters use the Tracking skill, they should find footprints of the previous exploration group, as well as tracks of wild animals. Using the Track ID skill will decipher Human and Elf footprints. There will also be Wolf, Wild Boar, and possibly snake skin peelings. Hidden within the base of the toppled tower is a stone spiral staircase that descends underground. The Characters will require a light source to explore the underground corridors and rooms.
