Commoner Hall

By Mark Kibbe

Room #1

This room is one of the dorms. It is packed with several bunk beds. Twelve students share this room, the single wooden dresser, and same iron brazier. There are a few shelves, several cubbyholes, and a single full-length mirror.

Room #2

This dorm room serves as the sleeping quarters for twelve students. There are several shelves and cubbyholes, a small iron brazier, and a small dresser.

Room #3

Professor Daritee, a Merikii scholar, oversees this classroom. He has been teaching History at the University for 15 years. The maximum number of students that he can teach per class is five. Typically there are between 2-4 students registered each month. He teaches each type of History (Hampton, Pereysha, Daryna, Hamsburg, Ry-Gel, and Sincord) two months each year. The Character must specify which type of History he or she wishes to study and then wait until the Professor is teaching that class.

Room #4

When a Character wishes to learn the Language skill, he or she must enroll with Professor Yammel. This Human scholar has been teaching Language at Commoner Hall for nearly 40 years. He is an elderly man who is hard of hearing, overbearing, and obnoxious. He teaches only 3 students per class. Typically there are only 1d2 students enrolled each month. Although Yammel teaches the languages of Elf, Dwarf, Sprite, and Merikii, he only teaches each one three months out of the year. The Character must specify which type of Language he or she wishes to study and then wait until the Professor is teaching that class.

Room #5

This is the library. There are several bookcases along the walls, windows for illumination, and a few small tables. The available books are written in the Juravian language and discuss Plants, Animals, and Minerals. There are also scrolls and parchments on the Histories of various kingdoms. At any given time there will be 2-4 students within this room.

Room #6

The fourth dorm room, this area provides sleeping accommodations for twelve students. The room is equipped with several stacked beds, a dresser, some shelves, an iron brazier, and a few cubbyholes.

Room #7

This chamber holds several small tables, a cabinet full of ingredients, and an assortment of beakers, glass bottles, and other paraphernalia. There are usually 1-2 students here working on research projects or experiments for Professor Morinval. This door has a lock that is always activated when no one is in the room. Only the Professor and some of his most notable students have a key.

Room #8

This area belongs to Professor Morinval, a Dunnar wizard. He practices the mystical arts of Enchantment Magic and teaches the skill to would-be magicians. He only has 1 student a year, so there is only a 5% chance that a Character can become his apprentice and learn the skill. Occasionally, he will ask his pupil to resign from the class. This happens when the Dunnar feels the child is unqualified to become an Enchanter. In addition to teaching Magic, the Dunnar also helps students with Alchemy projects and Research projects. He has quite a few students working in his laboratories on various experiments. Although the University discourages these extracurricular activities, they do not wish to severe the wizard's tenure.

Room #9

Another dorm room, this chamber holds twelve students, several bunk beds, an iron brazier, and a small dresser. There are several hooks and cubbyholes for the students to put garments.

Room #10

Adjacent to the magic-user's chamber is a small study. There is an iron brazier in this room that supplies light. Also a small table with several chairs. Some minor artwork hangs on the wall for decoration. The room is usually empty but there is a 25% chance that a tutor and a student will be here working. If so, the Character will be asked to come back another time.

Room #11

Professor Andaria Bree, a Human educator, instructs students in the fine arts of Law (Judicial). He is an excellent teacher and students under his tutelage gain +15% when using the skill. Although the University offered him higher wages to teach the Upper Class, he demanded to work in Commoner Hall. Only 5 students may take this class each month, and there are typically 2-12 students enrolling each month. Because of this, Characters may have to wait a few months before entering the class.

Room #12

Learning to Read and Write is an important skill and Professor Ipothi, a Human instructor, takes it very seriously. This elderly Human is very condescending, overbearing, and cruel. He belittles his students and berates their abilities. Capable of teaching up to five students per class, Ipothi generally has 1-2 students in his classroom each month. Although he teaches how to read and write Juravian, Elf, and Merikii, he only teaches each type four times a year.

Room #13

This room is an utility room. Two different Professors share the chamber to teach their separate classes. Professor Haldris, a Human scholar, uses this room during the day to teach his Plant ID class. Each month he teaches up to 5 students, though his class enrollment is generally between 2-4. At night the chamber is used by Professor Runkirk, a Dwarven sage of some notoriety, holds a Jeweler class. Typically 2-5 students are enrolled in this class. Because the Dwarf can teach a maximum of 5 students, it is possible the Character may have to wait to take the class.

Room #14

This large room is an atrium. The ceiling is covered with panels of glass that allow sunlight to illuminate the room. Benches line the walls of the chamber. In the center of the room is a large marble fountain filled with splashing water. At any give time there will be 2d4 students studying in this room.
