This month's cover design is from Braun and Schneider's Historic Costume In Pictures (1861) and depicts some typical Ottoman troops of the early 18th Century. The man at left is a horse archer, in the center a Janissary and then a Solak. The next man is labeled as a Janissary, but this is unlikely since Janissaries did not wear full beards. The last fellow is a mounted standard bearer.
