With a Little Help
from Our Friends

by William Johnson

In the last issue I announced that I would be expanding the Dragoman to cover more than just the Napoleonic Era. At that time I said that while 1 had no objections to the expansion, I also had only limited information on other periods and would need your help if the expansion was to succeed.

Well, as usual, you, our readers, came through. This issue features a set of proposed chances to the Ottoman lists for the DBR Renaissance range by Mark Bevis and a book review by Mark Frederick. There is also have a short piece by Brian Robinette on other sources for Ottoman figures.

All three of these stories reach beyond the Napoleonic Era at least in part and with your continued support the Dragoman can continue to offer an expanded range of subjects and time periods.

One request, though: Please include some art or other form of illustration, if possible, with your submissions. It will help dress up your article and give the entire newsletter a better appearance.

Also, this issue is going to 12 pages, not only to fit in these additional articles, but also to provide room for an in-depth treatment of the Ottoman irregular infantry of the Napoleonic Era.

In The Crescent Among the Eagles all of the Ottoman irregular infantry of the Napoleonic Era was lumped together under the general heading of Sekhans. While technically correct, continuing research has convinced me this was far too limiting, with some units being greatly superior and others greatly inferior. If it comes to pass that an expanded, hardcover version of The Crescent Among the Eagles, is ever published, the changes listed in this article will be part of the new army lists.
