First, compliments and congratulations to Tim Mullen & Co. for an outstanding and fun event - and a plentiful supply of pizza and coke at just the right moment of the gaming frenzy, rendering that familiar "play versus feed" choice less painful for all of us. Second, many thanks to Major Bill for toting down several tons of nicely painted lead to supply tournament armies to several participants. The Armati Grand Rounds Tournament appears to have functioned reasonably smoothly. Participants seem to have found everything they needed and had plenty of table space to play. The $40.00 cash prize was quickly converted into consumables, and the cunningly designed 1st through 3rd place plaques now occupy various perches in war rooms, barracks, and restroom facilities, as appropriate to the owner's sense of honor and accomplishment. Tourney improvement advice was good and will be implemented: longer hours, and a posted leader board so everyone will know who is top gun (recall you get points for beating good players versus racking up cheap wins). Alas, I can't handle the financing for the free beer dispenser as requested. There were 8 participants who played a total of 11 recorded games. Arena scoring requires a minimum of 4 recorded games per participant. Those Generals who didn't stomp or get stomped by the requisite number of foes were, unfortunately, penalized. For example: General X played 2 games total and won them both, but the 2 battles he didn't fight are counted as losses - so his winning percentage falls from 2/2 to 2/4. Clear? Fine. That will help explain the otherwise fairly low scores posted below for the Tourney as a whole.
The following armies were used with greater or lesser (or no) success: Early Seleucid; Alexandrian Imperial; Seljuk Turks; Republican Roman; English 100YW; Teutonic, early and late; 16th Century Indian; Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; Thracian; 16th Century Austrian; Parthian; and, Trajanic Roman. Jeez, what a zoo. Those who scored less than they might have liked to, please don't be discouraged - come play in the Armati mini-tournament to be held at the War Room, Atlanta, on 4 DEC 99 (details later), to exact a sweet and degrading revenge on your Reunion oppressor(s)! Yes, swift and bloody retribution for those who bollixed-up your score! Jihad! Prepare a short, blunt stake for their nether regions... Well, you get the point. Thanks again to all who participated!
