JodieCon/Campaign'98 was an HMGS theme event of the "1815 Waterloo Campaign" held at USMA Prep School with 39 total Participants over the 3.5 Oct Columbus Day weekend - Friday to Sunday. Directed by Major Pete Panzen. With Registration and Resources through Jodie Lindberg, Tactical Umpire Fred Hubig, Operational Umpire - Dr. Jim Birdseye, and several others who put energy and talent into the event. (The 1999 JodieCon Schedule is below] Rather than brag on it, the participants all speak for it. From: Todd Kauderer [The Campaign is) a mini-campaign that involves a lot of map moves, hidden enemy movements, dispatches. confusion and chaos. Each player is assigned a command ;nd only can speak to other commanders that are in immediate contact. Each independent commander issues strategic movement orders for their command and are responsible for sending dispatches to their teammates. When any commander makes contact with the enemy, a battle may be fought. During the Waterloo weekend in October, there were 3 or 4 battles going on simultaneously in different rooms. The only way way other commanders know what was happening was if they received a dispatch. It was a far cry from the normal Napoleonic battle where everyone lines up shoulder to shoulder to attack frontally. Pete Panzeri and Fred Hubig (and mostly Jodie) did a fantastic job to set this up and I look forward to going to more in the future. Bob Grosse I want to extend my thanks and kudos to yourself. Pete Panzeri, Jodie, Dr. Birdseye, and the others whose names I cannot remember at this time. All your hard work and energy put in to organizing and running the Campaign is fully appreciated. The event was organized very well and registration was a breeze. I arrived at approx. 3 PM on Friday and was involved with my cohorts in 15 minutes. Todd Fisher did an excellent job as Napoleon and his computer [projector] display helped greatly. As for advertisement I think most of the participants were gathered by word of mouth, I saw the flyer at Historicon and was not greatly interested even though Ft. Monmouth/Sea Girl is only an hour away from me. I was talked into the game by Kevin Combs with whom I have developed a friendship with over the many Empire games he has run at HMGS conven, tions. That was the strongest reason why I attended. I think the flyers left at the Conventions will sort of get lost in the shuttle of other flyers but that is certainly one way to advertise. . . . The strategic game seemed to play very well from my viewpoint. . . The troop setup went ok. . . I had no problem with the composition of my force. It played very well. . . I think the best way I can judge this event is to say that I look forward to playing in 1999. Again thank you for all your hard work and good humor during the event. The Army Commanders all did a fantastic job preparing for the event and were inspirations to their staffs throughout, making the campaign interesting and enjoyable for all. Thanks a million!
