Baxter’s Thoughts

Time

by Baxter Key

Well as I sit here, musing over the last year a few things are creeping through my mind this morning. First off is the passing of our good friend Carl Arsenault over the Christmas holidays. Carl was one of the original members of the Knoxville group along with Rick Valentine, Jasper (whose last name escapes me), and Mark Spurill. Carl was a true gamer and gentleman at the table.

The start of the year also brings about Siege of Augusta, and Nashcon. I am in charge of Nashcon again, (insert sigh of exasperation here), and I am looking to “volunteer” a few gamers to help me this year as my time has become even tighter over the last year. As we all know over the last few years we have experienced some pains with Nashcon, and with all of the members help we can restore Nashcon to the premiere historical convention of the south once again. This means that we all have to pitch in and do some of the things that are required to make it a successful show, be it handling tabletops, running games, or working the registration desk. If we can get everybody to put in 2 hrs of time each, it will make everything work a lot better and smoother.

We also need nominations for the Mary Beth Award. As most people know Mary Beth was Gerald Swick’s late wife who put a lot of her effort into getting Nashcon & Midsouth up and running. The award is given to the person(s) who have put forth the most effort into helping the hobby locally. We have not given the award in the past couple of years so there a re several qualified candidates in my mind so think about who should be nominated and send them to Mike Peccolo at mikemarie@aol.com and he will bring them before the BOD to vote on. Deadline for this is 1 April 2005.

Well that’s it for me I am off to stand over the spincaster and make more little guys to move around the table. See you over table and may all your rolls be six’s, unless you’re playing ASL then you want snake eyes.
