Additional Nashcon Note

2004

by Joe Collins

Hello:

I'm sending this email to all new folks who have contacted my this year and to all who were on my list as running games from last years convention. It is now high time to start organizing our games for Nashcon 04. As you all know we had a great convention last year. To reprise the high points

    1. For the first time in 5 years we actually had some growth in attendance. We saw some new faces as well as some old faces which we hadn't seen in a number of years.

    2. The Memphis club (Charlie, Phil and the rest of the Memphis Mafia) made a heroic effort to both attend and run high quality games.

    3. We established ourselves in a high quality venue which everyone enjoys.

    4. We had a great format with two large 6x12 tables per gaming room.

This year we are going to change a few things.

1st. We are going to better advertise our tournaments. Steve M. for the last 3 (or 4) years has sponsored and run a successful Squad Leader tournament. Ed ran the popular DBA tournament last year. Steve Duke this year will run a battleground tournament- a game not played in the Nashville area- but one that should be and soon will be............

2nd. We are going to probably include more large format tables. One of the wonderful happenings in gaming over the last 5 years has been the increase in the quality (and quantity) of the terrain. We want to support this. I am thinking of using 2 large tables in each gaming room. This will accommodate the large ACW games already planned... plus Darick has expressed the desire to run Waterloo… and Quatre Bras....... and Ligny...... Kirk and Baxter are taking about a giant Stalingrad game. Ed Bozman may scare me with another giant WW2 game. I will not mention Duncan or Moon.

3rd. We actually have a theme this year. The theme is to do games based on movies. Don't let this limit you. Any and all games are welcome. Let this be instead a source of creative ideas..... Because of this I am doing Gettysburg this year.

Anyway, let us start putting the schedule together. Email your game specifics and times that you want. Sessions will be the same as last year. Two (2) Sessions Friday, Three (3) Saturday, and One (1) Sunday. Games on Sunday should be lighter and quicker as everyone is usually worn out by that time. We do however need games for Sunday.

As always the initial schedule will change drastically. Don't feel bad if you need to reschedule. Don't hesitate to contact me with special needs.

Finally, this list will be used to distribute the schedule. I usually send this as a MS Word file. If you don't want to be on this list, then please respond back and I will take you off of it. Expect schedules about once a week starting with next week. The couple of weeks before Nashcon I will usually mail out one a day (as most of you guys wait for the last week to schedule--- you know who you are---)

Look forward to seeing everyone this May 28, 29th and 30th.........

Joe Collins Nashcon Games Coordinator (Dawn is my boss)
