A Survey of 1/2400 Ships

Figure Reviews

by Kevin Pinder

At 1:2400 scale you have:

GHQ

Superb models that are generally fairly robust and can withstand moderately careful handling. On the downside these require considerable assembly. WWI and WWII. BBs run 11$

CinC

Good models that are very robust. Fairly recently resumed production after a long hiatus. Many examples can be obtained through vendors who have old stocks. WWI and WWII. A fair amount of assembly required. BBs run $8ish. Try Campaign Headquarters. Email to CHQ@att.net or go direct to CinC at 3211 21 st Av. s#2 Minneapolis Minn 554072409.

Viking Forge

Good models with some superb examples mixed in. Pre Dreads, WWI and WWII and some moderns. Little assembly. Very robust. 1727 Theresa Lane. Powhatan, Va. 23139. BBs run $4.50-$6.00

Superior Models

Fair to good models. WWII and modern. Very robust. BBs run $8.ish. Little assembly. www.alnavco.com

Panzerschiffes

Resin models. Very primitive, fragile if not mounted on bases, no assembly. BBs run $5.00. The plus to this line is that they make everything imaginable. Civil War through Sino Japanese War all the way to the end of WWII. P.O. Box 26074 Akron Ohio 44319. With drilled wire masts and a decent paint job they are pretty presentable.

Pewtercraft

The flying Dutchman of figure maunfacturing. It appears every once and a while and operates then vanishes again. It has a limited 2400 scale line. Its currently MIA

Figurehead

At 2400 scale this includes wooden ships from 1200 through to Lissa in 1866. At the scale the models are inescapably basic. See below for poc.

1:3000 and Up

At 1:3000 there are Navwar and Davco and the rest of the semi-incestuous British companies. There is also Denian that does moderns. Simtac carries Denian. 15G Colton Rd East Lyme, Cn 06333

At 4800 scale CinC has a line of WWII ships. There is Hallmark at 6000 scale. I have no poc for them and there is Figurehead. They have an extensive line from Tsushima on thru 1945. Figurehead is available thru Regal Miniatures www. regalminiatures.com

I'm over 40 so I cant see ships below 3000 scale so I can give no guidance on the quality of the 4800 and 6000 scale lines.
