We just received this late breaking news: Baxter Key, our NASHCON manager had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor behind his eye. He is now home and recovering so let's all of us keep him in our prayers. Well, NASHCON has come and gone, and another successful one it was. First off I would like to thank all those folks who made it a successful show, and especially the game masters without whom none of our efforts would be worth anything. There were a few glitches, which were ably handled by our harried convention manager, Baxter Key. Now for the numbers: attend ance(paid) -. 208. Positive cash flow (after expenses): $1667. There were 13 dealers, 43 members who renewed and 12 new members added. On the down side, Warfair in Atlanta the following week cut into our attendance and Charlie Traylor promises to put more time between our shows next year. (He usually does, but there was a problem with facility availability this year.) At the general membership meeting the election results were announced and you guys must be at least a little bit satisfied with the way this group is going as the current board were all returned, though both Bill McGinnis and Bryant Williams tied and a coin toss determined the winner (Bill). This year's Mary Beth award went to the Track and Hull club and all it's members. The plaque was accepted by Kirk Harris, Art Townsend and Tom Barkley on their behalf. Participation in the Armati Renaissance tournament dropped to just eight players, so Wargames (logically enough) decided to withdraw sponsorship of the tournament as a 'National' championship. The tournament was won by Jim Morris and his bloody Spanish. (Those Tercios made mincemeat of my poor Poles!). According to Steve McBee, the Advanced Squad Leader tournament suffered the same problem, lack of participants.- I'm not quite sure how to get you folks to read the frigging flyer etc. and participate but we'll try again next year... FYI Continuing on with NASHCON news, the Heirloom Army (Navy?) of ACW ships were won by Chad Kehir of Antioch, TN. The 2001 army is 20mm WWII ETO, Anyone who was unable to complete or paint their Y2K ships still owe these to Chad, so please send them to him, painted or not! You will need to do so AND let Bryant Williams know so you will not be banned from future participation!
