In my capacity as editor/publisher of Cry "Havoc!" I am often given or encounter material that is interesting in and of itself but not long enough to warrant a full page. Starting with this issue we will, from time to time run this compendium of trivia, minutiae and other items of interest. The award for the most unusual published book on a military subject has to go to retired US Navy Commander Al Stetz for his work In Search of Eagles: A Guide to Golf Courses on US Military Bases (Garden City, NY: Garden City Printers & Mailers, 220 p. $19.95). This is definitely the book for the military history buff who has everything. Stetz has compiled the vital statistics every avid military golfer needs: addresses, telephone numbers, tee to hole distances for each individual hole, course conditions, greens fees, cart fees, other recreational facilities and food and lodging information for each of the 184 golf courses on military bases in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. What anyone who is not a convert to the art of putting a round white ball in deep dark hole would do with this book is beyond me, but it is a necessary adjunct to the library of every uniformed linkster. Son of Inchon Line of Departure Editor Jim Werbaneth reports that he is hard at work on "Son of Inchon," or as it is known more formally -- The Marianas Campaign -- for John Vanore's Spearhead Games. Werbaneth is using the same approach he used in the award winning Inchon for the separate battles for Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. The effect he's shooting for is akin to the ever popular Napoleon's Last Battles -- a few small fast-playing games that can be easily combined into something greater than the sum of the parts. The difference is that Marianas Campaign reflects 1990's concerns (such as logistics) and should have a better replay value. A random events table will handle things such as replacements, stray air raids and the Turkey Shoot. Werbaneth's also got some banzai rules that allow the Japanese player, assuming he hasn't been decimated to "kick butt" for a turn -- and an American counterattack rule entitled "Payback is a M********." No release date has been set. Strategy & Tactics Strategy & Tactics will be changing its publication schedule from eight times a year to six. No reason was given for the change, though the move is partly offset by the addition of sixteen additional pages per issue.
