An article by Cry "Havoc!" editor David W. Tschanz was voted the Charles S. Roberts Award for Best Historical/Scenario article. The article titled, "Overshadowed by a phrase: Pyrrhus" appeared in C3i No. 14. Brian Train attended Burning Man for the first time this year. In addition the game he developed with Joe Miranda, "First Indochina War" received the Charles S. Roberts Award for Best Magazine Published Boardgame. Sometime contributor and former editorial assistant Karl Tschanz was promoted to Specialist. He is hard at work on an article on Operation:Paul Bunyan. Everett Richardson celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversay on August 22, 2003 and wrote the following: On that date I will have spent 50 years of wedded bliss with one of the greatest drill "Sarge's" the world has ever known and am not ashamed to admit that I'm proud of it, But... My life would have been a whole lot different if She had not made it so easy for me ! Richardson also received his high school diploma this summer. Jim Werbaneth, our roving travel editor, is on his way to Quebec. He has been in contact with long time Cry "Havoc!" subscriber Philippe Couillard, who is currently the Minister of Health for Quebec. Phil's brother Denis is one of the leading experts on the military history of the French in North America and is collaborating to make Jim's visit an interesting one, Ken West advises that he and his fellow reenactors had their annual performance at the Buena Vista "Gold Rush Days" in Colorado. We have one more performance this summer at an equestrian center south of Denver. We get to rob the stagecoach in this one! MagWeb.com also co-sponsored the War College lecture series at the Origins 2003 convention back in June, 2003. Approximately 50 hours of lectures on all military subjects from ancient to modern were presented over the four-day show. The featured speaker was Prof. Dr. John Guilmartin, who spoke about the Mayaguez incident at the tail end of the Vietnam War. Planning is underway for the War College at Origins 2004. An invitation to speak has been presented to Cry "Havoc!" editor David W. Tschanz, who will talk about biological war. Heading to Korea in March 2004 will be Alan Cranford with his signal company in the Nevada Army National Guard. The unit will be there for their annual training exercises.
