Let Slip the Dogs of War

Editorial

by David Tschanz

CH40 has arrived! I hope you notice it is on time. Yes -- that's what I said -- its on time. For once life and circumstances have worked out. Also I live in Saudi Arabia and I don't mind mentioning that I'm never exactly sure what's going to happen next. I'm playing it safe.

This issue concludes TEN YEARS of publication. I don't intend to celebrate the 10th anniversay until NEXT issue as it was in February 1993 that we came into being, so purist that I am the tenth anniversary is February 2003. I might even do a retrospective and surprise you all with a cumulative index.

Meanwhile this is an unusual issue. Reviews dominate, along with some side long paths into ship modeling form Jim Bloom and GI Joe by Alan Cranford. Some may be scratching their heads about this but read the articles and all will be obvious.

Jim Werbaneth, Janet Phillips, and Bob Miller provide us with a series of reviews. Based on a large amount of reader comments on Mike Flynn's article on Halsey's Typhoons, in CH39 I've excerpted part of Admiral Morison's accunt of the December typhoon for your perusal and enjoyment -- additional commentary on the typhoons and a few surprises await for February along with some insights into the Mamluks.

See you then.
