Here's some ideas for holiday gifts to send to the wargamer in your family:

1. Pomegranate distributes a fantastic calendar entitled: The Library of Congress : THE CIVIL WAR 1994 Calendar. For a free catalog of their calendars, write to: Pomegranate; Box 808022; Petaluma, California, 94975.

2. If you have an audio CD, then, the original soundtrack recording of PBS' THE CIVIL WAR by Elektra Entertainment is greatly appreciated.

3. To listen to while they walk (and they should be exercising!) Military Greats instrumentals are available on cassette

4. If you'd rather make something yourself, how about a dice bag to hold the dice? Cut a circle 6 " in diameter. Turn under 1/4 inch all around and again 1/2". Stitch and insert a drawstring.

5. Another great gift can be made by using an old map of their favorite theater of war. With the use of clear contact paper, form the map into a large pocket to place the war games or rules of engagement in.

6. Model tanks, planes etc., are available everywhere, and maybe include a few paints, brushes and a 'drop' cloth so that the dining room table doesn't get destroyed in the process.

7. Antique maps are always an unexpected gift, if you check out the antique shows and telephone directory, you might even find a dealer in your neighborhood. One mail order company is Northern Map Co. Dunnellon, Florida 32630. $2.00 for the catalog.

8. For a gift to use throughout the year, what about a subscription to Smoke and Fire News? (PO Box 166; Grand Rapids, OH 436522. Tel 419-832-0303). This is a national listing of Battle reenactments, Museum exhibits, rendezvous, POWWOW, etc. Sounds like a lot of fun!

9. If posters are more in your line, what about a typical poster from World War I and II. Catalog # 17 ($10.00) has a nice selection. Order from Meehan Military Posters; PO Box 477; New York, NY 10028 (Tel. 212-734-5683). Posters are also available through the National Archives in Washington, DC.

10. If you'd like to make a subtle suggestion, how about the ARMED FORCES WORKOUT video?

11. The US Government has a nice little stocking stuffer - What about a free copy of their military history catalog. This is available for the asking by writing to: Free Military History Catalog; US Government Printing Office; Office of Marketing; Room 1113, Stop SM; Washington DC 20401

12. From the US Government Book Catalog, the following are available and sound VERRRRRY interesting.
