CH39 has arrived! Okay it is a late.. again. Yes that sounds terrible, but it has been a busy few weeks in terms of work and things happening in my personal life. I delivered my paper in Istanbul but returned home with a severe case of giardiasis, which pretty much sapped my energy. NOAA satellite photo of a 1998 typhoon. The good news is that CH40 will be on time. I know this because its already laid out and under production. This quarter's issue is a pair of articles -- first, Mike Flynn returns to the contributors rank with an examination of the events surrounding "Halsey's Typhoons" -- a rather interesting and ironic chapter in the history of the Pacific Theater. Jim Bloom reviews the history of Vasco da Gama's voyage of exploration and discovery from Lisbon to India. It may not be strictly "military history," but it is as always, insightful. Looking ahead to next month -- a destination piece from Jim Werbaneth, additional commentary on the typhoons and a few surprises await. See you then.
