Tony Rohling reports that he recently heard a musical composition composed by Jerri Villanueva, the Air Force band member who contributed an article on "Taps" in CH31. "The piece was an arrangement of the anthems of all five branches of the armed forces, and I heard it at an outdoor concert in New Jersey. It was quite good, with each anthem segueing well into the next. Too bad the band leader introduced the piece as being by "Jelly" Villanueva. He also didn't know the translation of the title to the Coast Guard song - "Always Prepared" Tony is studying for his second Masters, this time in Adult Education and Leadership. He also studying aikido at a dojo located about two blocks from Ground Zero. Ken West (r) and friend Ken West advises that "I find that I am in surprisingly good shape for someone who was gunned down in the street four times on Saturday and twice on Sunday. I can confirm for all of your very Christian friends that dying is easy -- resurrection is a bitch; and I'm not the oldest or fattest member of the club to be getting up off the concrete! Bankruptcy notices were received from federal courts in Cailfornia regarding certifying what most of already knew. Not only is Command and XTR a dead issue, but Chris Perello, Larry Hoffman and Ty Bomba have all filed personal bankruptcy papers. The move effectvely means that anyone who had outstanding invoices against Command (like most of the writers and subscribers) won't be receiving their money. Jim Dunnigan's new book The Next War Zone, about Internet terrorism is due out in September. In Spring the 4th edition of his classic How to Make War will appear. After moving to Reno from Riyadh, Alan Cranford has joined the 321st SIG CO (LTTROPO), a National Guard unit. "I am 45 and kind of long in the tooth, but based upon my background and my AFQT test scores I was enlisted as a sergeant." There have been no professional changes for charter member Brian Train and he remains employed by the Canadian government and still is in the process of recovery. "I still have the Ilizarov frame on, but might be getting it off next week after almost 10 months of wearing it. An external brace for the following 2 months and I'm as good as Science can make me. By then it will have been almost four years since I was run over." Brian's Battle For China plus the expansion kit was published in issue #42 (Jan-Feb 02) of Japanese Command magazine. Also published in the last 12 months are Algeria (1954-62, first game published on that war), War Plan Crimson (alt-hist, US invades Canada in 1930s) and Operation Whirlwind (Budapest 1956).
