CH38 has arrived! Okay it is a little over a month late. Yes that sounds terrible, but it has been a busy few weeks in terms of work and things happening in my personal life. The good news is that CH39 will be on time. I know this because a lot of the material I intended to put in this issue was bumped when an editorial decision was made to make this an all Cortes vs the Aztecs issue. Blame Ken West -- his piece on the Aztecs reminded me of my older piece on the Aztecs and a need to re-vise it. By the time that was done, the issue was done. And I still have some leftover material. To summarize what you do have -- West's piece is a an interesting analysis of the reasons for Cortes' victory and the failure of the Aztecs. My article details that failure in narrative form in CH39 we will devote part of the issue to tying up the loose ends we left here, particularly the demographics.
