A fireworks enthusiast has proposed "The Mother of All Light Shows" for the year 2000 - intercontinental ballistic missiles streaking through the skies armed with payloads of multicolored meteors. Dave Caulkins, who published his idea in the current issue of the Journal of Pyrotechnics, says the massive spectacle would be an appropriate way to celebrate the end of the Cold War and the start of the new millennium. He says disarmed Russian SS-18 and American Minuteman nuclear missiles could be loaded with "artificial meteors" designed to produce fireworks-like effects as they came through the atmosphere.
