Let Slip the Dogs of War

Editorial

by David W. Tschanz

As you will no doubt have noticed the date on this issue bears no resemblance to the date you are receiving it. The backlog from my unexpected return to the US in the fall and other minor crisises continued well past the time I thought I would have them cleaned out.

The good news though is that I write this the next issue is blocked out and in the editing stages -- meaning that the May issue should arrive within about two weeks after you receive this issue. As editor I also have to point out that one of the ongoing problems we are facing is a lack of submitted material by the readership. Like everyone else I have my areas of interest -- primarily the Civil War, the Middle East and a others. Balance needs to be achieved and I need your input for that.

Thnkfully the e-mail response has been good -- Geoff Riddell is preparing a series reviewing military web sites. Jim Werbaneth's travel pieces are in the pipeline and I'm hoping to get the Wargaming Widow to return for a couple of issues.

This issue's articles represent the sort of diversity I hope to maintain -- Brian Train discusses US Army organization in the 1950's while John Tegtmeier offers an exhaustive Vietnam War bibliography. There's also an article on the crucial battle of Hattin. We throw in a bit of humor with Adam Goodheart's tongue in cheek treatise on flying a Sopwith Camel, while Karl Tschanz contributes a sheet of characters from his Pugnacious Rabbit Gladiator comic strip that's featured in his school's alternate newspaper (and YES his father does have pull here).
