Brian Train has been named a contributing editor in recognition of his contributions to Cry Havoc and the general excellence of his work Contributing Editor Jim Bloom's article on Josephus in Galilee is to be published in the Fall 1997 issue of Military and Naval Forum. Contributing Editor TW Gideon's Rise of the House of Saud appeared in the August 1997 issue of Military History. David Tschanz's The Arab Roots of European Medicine was the cover issue in the most recent issue of Aramco World. He also encountered it on a web site at: http://www.erols.com/zenithco/index.html Contributing Editor Brian Train's game design on the Spanish Civil War Arriba Espana will be sold shortly through the Microgame Co-op which can be found on http://www.ocii.com/~kanderso/coop.html David Tschanz' Disease and Military History piece is scheduled for Strategy & Tactics #184. Brian Train writes that Microgame Co-op, which specializes in "micro" games, produces games that are mostly 280 counters, 11x17" map, with a good amount of rules and sophistication as well as being in full color. They are also being offered for less than what a Metagaming micro would cost today, given 5% inflation since their heyday ca.1982: only 6 dollars). Brian Train also reports that his "political history of the Chinese PLA" piece, and his material on Pu Yi and Manzhouguo will appear an issue early in Strategy & Tactics #185. Senior Contributing Editor Jim Werbaneth's article on Acre has been picked up by Military History and is scheduled for June 1998. Contributors to the mainstay wargaming magazines Command and Strategy & Tactics are advised of the following: Command has been reportedly slow to pay — sometimes as long as eight months after publication (one contributor reported having sent three faxes and two registered letters simply to get a $150 check from them). Strategy & Tactics has dropped its rate to 4 cents per word and is trying to convince contributors to take product in lieu of payment. As anyone with a calendar has noticed, neither magazine is publishing at anything like its supposed rate and schedule. Denis McDonnell, editor of TE Notes, reports that his final 1996 issue should be in the mail soon. The first issue of 1997 will be a forty pager. Denis writes: "I really hope to get caught up this year!!" Editorial Assistant Karl Tschanz returns to Millbrook School in Millbrook, NY. He helped put out this issue and will be sorely missed. Associate Editor Bob Miller's newsletter for Conn organ aficionados Conn-tacts is being well received by hobbyists. Jim Werbaneth's high quality newsletter, Line of Departure is about to make its web debut as On-Line of Departure. More details to follow.
