Let Slip the Dogs of War

Editorial

by David W. Tschanz

Last issue I mentioned that there would be some changes in Cry "Havoc!" Look over to the left and you'll see the major change -- as of this issue we became the official publication of the Military History Special Interest Group of American Mensa, Ltd.

What does this mean? Editorially, not very much will change. Cry "Havoc!" will continue its stated policy of publishing material of interest on all aspects of military affairs. Our philosophy of covering more than just the "popular" topics will continue. The tapestry of military history is a broad one and should not be confined to a few topics simply because they're more marketable than others. We also encourage first time writers to submit material. There's no better way to get started (and hooked) on the joys of writing than to actually do it and see YOUR name in print. Our only requirement is factual accuracy and a reasonable degree of comprehensibility and at times we've even stretched the latter.

This issue is a case in point. The B-17 is rarely written about and first time contributor Brian Toelle does an excellent job introducing the subject. We return to the Crusades, a rich period also usually neglected, to give Mike Flynn a chance to briefly mention the lesser religious orders of warrior monks, and to become acquainted with the man who single-handedly brought down the Crusader states.

More to come in future issues? You bet -- hopefully with your name on it!
