The Panzer Division Hermann Goring, like many of Germany's "special" formations, has a unique history and organization. Before the start of war, it was a "bodyguard" battalion and a heavy flak regiment which had a regimental headquarters and three heavy flak battalions. In 1940, these two units were merged to form the Motorized Regiment Hermann Goring, with a unique organization that made it the only heavy flak regiment in Germany with with an additional motorized infantry battalion. In 1942, two additional motorized infantry battalions, as well as the proper regimental troops, were added, and the formation was renamed the Brigade Hermann Goring. As such it boasted a small brigade HQ, a complete motorized infantry regiment with three battalions, and a complete heavy flak regiment with three battalions. Fortunately for the men of this brigade, they weren't committed to any real fighting with this TO&E. In late 1942, Hermann Goring managed to expand the brigade into the Panzer Division Hermann Goring with the following TO&E. (The equipment listed is for 1944, though the organization was the same as that of 1943.) In its final form, the division numbered almost 20,000 men, thus making it one of the largest divisions among the German Armed Forces in WWII. Due to Hermann Goring's unique position in the Reich for the early 1940s (he was officially in charge of the German economy as well as the Luftwaffe), he was able to divert "extra" equipment into "his" division. In late 1944, for example, two companies of Tiger Is were added to the panzer regiment, though more than likely these were used as replacements rather than additional formations. Throughout 1944, the assault gun companies in the panzergrenadier regiments varied wildly in terms of both strength and type of vehicle present, with only the Jagdtigers and Jagdpanthers failing to show up, though the StG IIIg was by far the most common. In 1942-43, many of the motorized infantry battalions were issued the 75mm recoilless rifle, but the actual number per battalion is unknown. I suggest that you allow a maximum of one stand per battalion, but not in every battalion. Troop Quality: Experienced Morale: 8 (Reconnaissance: 9) Division TroopsDivision Headquarters, with:
