WWII Military Miniatures

1994

by Greg Novak

Have been to Cold Wars, Little Wars, and am heading south to Nashville the first weekend in June. Figures and vehicles, especially in 20mm and 15mm, are pouring in lately. The choices, especially in 20mm, are becoming amazing! Have attempted to use my old 35mm camera to take some pictures of the items now out and show them off.

20mm

PENDRAGON MINIATURES

Pendragon sent me several samples of figures, including some special groups. They now have 20mm tank crews for the British WWE-21, German 39-40 WWE-22, German 43-45 WWE-23, Russian WWE-24, American WWE-25, and Seated German Troopers, W WE-26. The tank crew packs cost $2.50 and consist of one full crew figure, two half crew (waist up), and two quarter figures (head and shoulders). The figures will fit 1/72 or 1/76 vehicles nicely, and are a welcome addition. The WWE-26 set (of which hopefully there will be a picture) costs $4.00, but has one of the best 20mm figures I have ever seen! It has a seated "sad sack" German soldier with his hand in his hand just a great figure.

Also sent were a Finnish soldier, a German, British 8th Army advancing, znd a member of your local resistance movement tossing a stick grenade. Very excellent figures! For a list contact:

BRITANNIA MINIATURES:

A company that I have not seen before has arrived here with some excellent figures for D-Day. There are 14 packs of US Rangers for Point Du Hoc, including a set with the grapnel launcher, 14 packs of Lord Lovat's Commandos (including a command pack with Lord Lovat, piper, and radio operator), and 13 packs of commando raiders. In addition, there are 12 packs of Germansthese are not action poses, but sentries and staff groups. One neat set on my painting table for painting as military police contains three Germans in greatcoat-one warming his hands over a fire set in a 55-gallon drum, one sitting on a drum smoking a cigarette, and one seated on a pile of boxes with a bottle to his lips. Figures are $0.75 each, with packages from $2.00 to $5.00, depending on contents.

The also have vehicles-a 20mm Opel Radio Truck for $14.95 (resin) a staff car, Duplex Drive Shermans, a Churchill AVRE, and a British LCA with crew ($21.95), and a motorized raiding dory with crewman ($9.95). They also offer some Atlantic Wall pillboxes so you can defend/attack as you wish. For a price sheet contact:

RAVENTHORPE MINIATURES:

Raventhorpe Miniatures can now be purchased in the United States. This is a British line of figures which features separate heads in many cases. For example, one can purchase 8th Army figures in shorts, and have a choice of South African sun helmet, guards cap, turban, tam, bush hat, or steel helmet. Figures are offered for Britain, France (including cavalry), Germany (including cavalry), USA, Japan, Italy (including cavalry), as well as other figures. They do an early war US range, which I use for the Rock Game. Separate weapons and some vehicles are sold, many of which are not found elsewhere. For information, contact:
