Back at the Keyboard Again

Editorial

by Dave Nilsen and Greg Novak

Well, its now March 25th, 1994, and I am far behind schedule-this time the editor is the problem. Going to make things short and sweet in order to get as much out in this issue that one can. On the down side, the real world has caught up with me over the last few months and I have found myself immersed in schoolwork, and far too many other things. There are far too many letters that I have not been able to answer! I will have to try and do better. (Promises, promises!!!)

On the plus side, I did make it out to Cold Wars '94 and ran a game or two there, and hope to make it to Little Wars, Historicon, and perhaps even Nashcon. Have several Command Decision games set up to run which I hope to take around the circuit with me. Hopefully, I will see many of you during the course of the summer.

This issue has the rest of the "The Persian Gulf War," our revised look at the Armies of the Gulf War, as well as the planned CDII Errata section. Missing and still unfinished is the CD Points System, which is still up in the air.

THE CD ELECTRONIC MAILING LIST

The following was sent to me by Barry L. Geipel, who is the founding father of this service. With luck, by the time this sees print I will have figured out a way to get access to the system.

About one year ago I set up the Command Decision Electronic Mailing List. This unique service utilizes global computer networks to bring Command Decision garners together to discuss all aspects of the game. The service is provided free of charge (not including normal network usage charges).

To become a subscriber to the CD mailing list, you first must have access to a computer and a computer network that is capable of sending E-Mail to the Internet. (The Internet is a vast matrix of computer networks.) Then all you need to do is send an E-Mail message stating your desire to subscribe to: cdmailer-request@cwi.com

or if you are a CompuServe subscriber, send E-Mail to: >INTERNET:cdmailer-request@cwi.com

If you are not sure if your network can send E-Mail to the Internet, just ask your system network administrator.

The mailing list works by sending your message via E-Mail to a central account which in turn redistributes the mail to all of the subscribers. Depending on the type of network you are on, this process can take from a few seconds to an hour or so. I can think of no faster way to get answers to questions than this service.

Currently there are approximately 50 subscribers who have posted more than 200 messages producing some 300 pages of valuable discussion (as of September 1993). Six countries are represented by those 50 subscribers, so we do have a truly international group.

The subscribers of the mailing list have been maintaining a living document called the CD FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). This document contains a detailed listing of publications, miniatures manufacturers, stores, etc. that relate to CD. This document is available electronically. Also, the complete archive of all messages sent to the CD mailing list is also available.
