CPQs, CDII Points, and More

by Greg Novak

UPCOMING ITEMS

Looking ahead to CPQs 6 to 8, at this point in time I hope to run the following supplements:

CP 6 The Spanish Civil War: Otherwise known as World War 1.5. A curious mixture of World War I and II, this conflict in Spain served as the curtain raiser for World War II.

CP 7 Red Storm Rising: The Bathtub version of World War III based on the Wilderness game run by the CITW back in 1988.

CP 8 The Race to Messina: A scaled-down version of the campaign in Sicily in 1943, designed to allow players to compete with each other, in that the commanders of the US 7th Army will also command the German-Italian forces facing the British 8th Army, and the commanders of the British 8th Army will command the Germans facing the Americans.

Suggestions for future supplements are sought as always.

CD II POINTS SYSTEM

It is very apparent that we need to develop a points system for CD II. Hopefully, in CPQ 5 we will be able to issue a tentative outline of such a system. I would be interested in any idea or feedback on this system that the readership might have on this.

The problem so far is coming up with a point system that can be used to reflect morale as well as troop training, and which also reflects actual TO&E status. (I dislike "Killer Armies" of all types-I once saw a game in 20mm (1 -to- 1 scale) which had more JgPz VIs on the table then the Germans ever produced, and it was legal by the rules used!) Anyway, look for this in CPQ 5.

COMMENDATIONS AND THANKS

I would like to commend two gamers for a wonderful series of CD games run at Origins '93. Fred Ashew and Rob Smith ran a series of actions from the 1939 GermanPolish campaign in 15mm! They had a tableful of wonderful conversions, as very little exists for this period, and introduced CDII to a number of gamers. Again, a commendation for a wonderful game with excellent troops and terrain.

THE ANSWERS TO LAST ISSUE'S QUESTIONS

Question: What unit holds the honor of being the first American combat unit to cross the Rhine River on the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen?

Answer: As part of of the American element of the Rhineland Occupation Force, the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 4th Marine Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division crossed the Rhine River at Remagen via the Ludendorff Bridge on December 13,1918. In Thomason's book, Fix Bayonets, first published in 1926, there is a description of this event.
