COMMAND DECISION II ERRATA

Command Post Quarterly 4 will include the updated CDII errata. I am putting this off one issue so that if you have any questions or noted any problems, please send them in to me so that they can be included in this issue. I have a listing of items already, and would like to make it as complete as possible. For the moment, here's the major problems already noted:

Soft Vehicles: Contrary to the chart, trucks and other soft vehicles do not get the -3 modifier from small arms. The days of the truck-mounted panzergrenadiers are over!

Pinned Personnel Stands: These stands have the fire effects halved only if they remain stationary. If they move, they lose this modifier.

Disengage and Opportunity Fire: Units issued a Disengage Order may not be fired on during Opportunity Fire unless they move closer to an enemy unit during their movement.

Forest: No visibility distance is listed for a forest, with the result that units walk into one another and always end up in close combat. Visibility should never be reduced to less than 1", so that units have the option of halting before they make contact with the enemy.

THE WISH LIST

Also starting in CPQ4 will be a wish list of what is needed in 20mm, 15mm, 1/200th, and 1/285th. I would like to run a Top 10 needed items in each scale. However, do not send me a list of everything that you feel is needed in this scale. Send me one item per scale that you really think that is needed, so that this list can be passed on to the manufacturer. If the item that you need is already made, then someone can let us know where the item can be found.

OTHER THOUGHTS

As I write this, I have a stack of items that I really need to get to-including letters from people, books to read, and articles that I really want to write. There is not enough time to get it all done, but one can try. Items of interest on my desk include the following:

The one great problem that plagues me is that one canalways find another source after one finishes one's work. For example, the University of Illinois Library here in Champaign has just acquired a copy of Secret Dispatches from Arabia by T.E. Lawrence. Some very interesting reports on the early Arab Army as seen by Lawrence and reported back to the Arab Bureau, with some great numbers and organizations-it arrived six months after I worked on that article. Need to put out an update as soon as possible.

Martin Samuels Doctrine and Dogma Greenwood Press 1992, is an excellent work on WWI and is causing me to go back and look at the British Army in Over The Top. It is, comparison of British and German command structure, and raises some very interesting points and answers some questions that have long puzzled me. Hopefully, more on this will follow.

There's a paper on Paras in the First Indochina War, some notes on the Australians in the Near East, a project on Korea and and a text editor on my neck.

THE ANSWERS TO LAST ISSUE'S QUESTIONS

Question: If you visited a German armaments plan from 1940 to 1942, what sound would you be most likely to hear?

Silence--German plants worked less than 60 hours week out of a possible 168.

Question: What is the only NATO country with female tank crewmen in combat units (not school or supply)?

    Denmark.

THIS ISSUE'S QUESTION

Question: You notice that a recent member of the US Army has a shoulder patch indicating that he is a member of a Cavalry unit. What does his unit do?

CORRECTIONS

In Command Post 7, we inadvertantly left the writing credit off of the article on the 3rd Indian Motor Brigade. We apologize to David Hughes, the author.
