The Forgotten Few

Letter to the Editor

by Fred Askew

In the latest Command Post (of which I am a loyal subscriber), you left out a couple of manufacturers who make 15mm 20th century castings. I thought I'd pass them on for the next time you do such a listing.

The big one is Minifigs. I'm not sure if Minifigs USA is still producing under Ral Partha or not, but, if they're still in business, they have an extensive WWI line, plus Boer War, Foreign Legion, and Northwest Frontier. Much of the WWI 15mm stuff is usable for WWII (for example, my WWII Hungarian infantry BN is actually Minifigs WWI Austro-Hungarians painted brown). I got a Minifigs order about 8 months ago through Ral Partha's 800 number, but the woman taking the order seemed irritated that I didn't want any Ral Partha stuff.

There's also a small company called Bloodaxe miniatures in Oregon. Bloodaxe makes a mixture of 15 and 25mm ancients and 15mm. WWII. It's a small line of WWII, but they make some odd bits that no one else does. I just got some hard-to-find pieces from them about two weeks ago (PZ III recovery vehicle, SdKfz 250 ammo carrier, US 3/4 ton ambulance, etc.)

Bloodaxe has a web site too: http://www.newportnet.com/ cyberfuture/ian/bloodaxe/hmpage.htm

There's another 15mm company in New Zealand that I just heard about, but haven't had time to track down yet. As an old 15mm player, it's nice to suddenly have all this variety.

I'm very happy to see the Hungarian 1942-43 list and am eagerly awaiting the Romanians. At last!
