By mid 1943 the Japanese Army found it necessary to reorganize its Infantry Divisions yet again. The increasing defensive nature of the war, combined with a need to match the firepower found in the British, Australian, and American Infantry Divisions, resulted in the creation of what was to be known as the Regimental Combat Team Division. The Divisional Reconnaissance Battalion and the Engineer Battalions were removed from the Division, while the supporting Artillery was directed assigned to serve with specific Infantry Regiments. A total of 7 Infantry Divisions were converted to this organization, which were the 14, 29, 36, 42, 43, 46 and 52. TROOP QUALITY: Experienced/Veteran
