Saudi Arabia

Due to space limitations, the Organizations which are listed here are for those of the major powers not found in COMBINED ARMS, as well as for the most important countries involved in the Gulf. It was necessary to leave out a number of the minor powers who had sent troops to the Gulf, as well as those not under Third Army command. We hope to add them in the next issue of the CP.

The entire Saudi Army consists of the following major formations:

    4 Armored Brigades
    3 Mechanized Brigades
    1 Infantry Brigade
    1 National Guard Brigade
    1 Parachute Brigade

Prior to this year, the Saudi Army used no formation above the Brigade, and in fact Saudi Battalions' are organized as semi-independent formations able to operate on their own.

SAUDI ARMORED BRIGADE

      1 Command Tank (M-60 or AMX-30)

1-2 MECHANIZED BATTALIONS: with;

      3 APC's (M113 or AMX-10P)
      1 APC with either HOT or TOW
      1 SP 81mm Mortar

      1 Gun Crew (DS)
      1 Medium Truck
      1 105mm Howitzer

1 ARTILLERY BATTALION

      1 M-109 SP 155 Howitzer or 1 Gun Crew Stand (DS)

      1 FH-70 or M-198 Towed 155mm Howitzer

SAUDI MECHANIZED BRIGADE:

    1-3 MECHANIZED INFANTRY BATTALIONS
    1 ARMORED BATTALION
    1 ARTILLERY BATTALION

NATIONAL GUARD BRIGADE

SAUDI NOTES

1. Some Saudi Artillery Battalions are equipped with 107mm Mortars in place of their Howitzers.
2. Saudi Infantry Stands use the Carl Gustav as their Light Antitank Weapon.
3. One stand in each mechanized infantry company is equipped with the Dragoon as a Medium Antitank Weapon.
4. One stand in each mechanized infantry company is equipped with either the Redeye/Stringer for air defense.
