THE NEXT THEME YEAR

This was one of the more interesting contests for Theme Year. As each batch of Volley Fires and letters camein the lead would shift from Mexican American War to Colonial WWI then to Terrain and back again. I finally set a mental cutoff date two weeks away and closed off the vote. One Theme had moved way ahead by that time, however, and in the end, it was no contest.

726 people voted (a new record), 50°/ voting first, second orthird choice for what eventually became the winning Theme Period. First choice votes are rated 3, second are rated 2, and third choices are rated 1. The sum of the weighted votes determines the winning period. Votes for other periods and write-in votes have meaning too as they tell us what your interest is.

The winning Theme is the Mexican American Warwith 359 votes weighted as 719. The runner up ws Terrain with 264 votes weighted at 640, third was WWI Colonial with 256 votes weighted at 551.

The Theme Editor will be Bob Marshall who has been demonstrating a lot of prize winning Mexican American War games at the major conventions over the years. He has a stellar group of gamers in that period lined up to do articles.

Those of you whose theme choice lost out, do not despair. I have lined up my Theme Editor choice for WWI Colonials to do several major articles and several in-depth Terrain articles are in the works.

I know you will all join me in a special thanks to Bill Protz who gave us what has to be the best covered Theme Year to date with the French and Indian Wars. We have not heard the last of Bill as I have several articles from him that will appear one per issue to round out that period.

A NEW NAPOLEONIC EDITOR

We owe special thanks to Jim Arnold who departs as our Napoleonic Editor to pursue awriting career in Military History (we like to think we got Jim his start), and welcome Jim Birdseye as our new Napoleonic Editor starting with IX-1.

DAMAGED COPIES OF THE COURIER

Those of you who receive damaged copies of The Courier (missing or blank pages, upside down print, etc. - those damaged by the Post Office do not count) shouldreturn them with a post paid large envelope (1st Class postage) and we will supply you with a new copy.

BAD ADDRESSES

We still get a lot of issues back because people refuse to believe that the Post Awful will not forward THIRD CLASS magazines and do not send us their address change at least 60 days ahead of time. We have to charge $2.50 to return these to you ($1.00 for the Postage Due and the rest to cover mailing, envelope, etc.). So please give us plenty of address change notice. And if you are missingan issue and have recently moved send in your $2.50 and we will forward your copy to you.
