This past Thursday I participated in the weekly miniature game at the wargame club. As usual the member whose turn it was to design the game arrived early, had set up the terrain and organized the figures (those bringing troops had also arrived early with all the necessary material, week he had passed out the scenario; side commanders had been chosen they had in turn passed on their plan to everyone on their side during the week. Everyone who signed up for the game was there except for Pete who was ill but had called to let us know and had provided for someone to command his troops (they were needed in the game) and had provided a substitute Also, Bob almost missed as he was supposed to have taken his neighbor to the airport but explained that he had a prior commitment (the game) - he rounds out our team. During the play, my opponent explained several mistakes I had made (only my second time with these rules) and let me take the moves back and there was quite a bit of give and take as we discussed the reality of the described rules - on several occasions we ignored them for more realism. In the final analysis, the other side lost because of such a divergence from the rules, they cheerily agreed that it was the more realistic and interesting . For our part, our side had taken two guard units off (without compensating replacements) because we realized that we had chosen unhistorical forces. But our luck held and we won anyway! Everyone had a good time and there was no complaining about the dice. We had some difficulty in choosing among all the volunteers to set up the game but that is always a problem in the club - always more volunteers job for the group than there are jobs to be done! If you believe such a group exists you are an APRIL FOOL!
