PETER MANTI is a 34 year old professional investigator and historian who resides in Chicago, Illinois. His interest in wargaming began in 1956 and includes miniatures and boadgames as well as the computer aspect. The two chief foci of his hobby have been the armies of the Hellenistic era and naval warfare throughout history. He has built in 1/900 scale the oar-powered fleets of the Ptolemis, Selucid, and Rhodes and puts on games with them with his own rules for local conventions and his club. He is currently building the army of Pyrrhos of Epiros in 15mm and working on a set of ancient army rules. Peter is a member of the Chicago Wargame Association (CWA), a group of area clubs who puts on a large yearly convention and publish a newsletter of club activities throughout the year. He has been active in the CWA as auctioneer, judge of events and a seminar leader and is president of LES GIES FAUVRES (The Wild Ceeese), an historical miniatures club whose main interest is in the Napoleonic period. His scholarly acomplishments include ascertaining the exact dimensions and components of the Macedonian cavalry and infantry sarisas and the discovery of the shield of Archilles used by Alexander the Great, articles on which will be appearing in forthcoming issues of Ancient World, a scholarly quarterly published in Chicago by Ares Publishers. He is currently designing a simulation for comparison of the Afghanistan campaigns of Alexander and the Soviets.
