ED NOTE: Technical problems intervened in the promised presentation of these rule modifications in this issue. They WILL appear in Vol. II, No. 6. The following rules are necessary to the gaming of the scenario in Vol. II, No. 4. Parts of these modifications appeared in LITTLE WARS, October 1978 and are represented with the kind permission of TSR Publications, Inc. VETERAN CREWCrews/units designated as veterans get the following benefits. Veteran 1 (V1) 1. When firing at a single target a deduction of '1' to
their chance to hit.
Veteran 2 (V2) (German Knights Cross of the Iron Cross winners or equivalent)
2. If capable of firing twice can fire at two seperate targets that are 50 meters or less apart at '-1' to their chance to hit. VETERAN CREW DETERMINATION (OPTIONAL)The following tables are used to determine the number of veteran crews in a unit. V1 stands for Veteran 1, V2 for Veteran 2, T1 for table 1, etc.
T2 Roll 2x6-sided die per 4 companies for V2 crews/squads T3 Roll 2x6-sided die and multiply the result times 2 per 4 companies for V1 crews/squads Roll 2x6-sided die for V2 crews/squads T4
Aug 44 thru 45 BR roll 1x6-sided dice per 2 companies for V1 US roll 2x6-sided die per company for V1 T5 2x6-sided die per 4 companies for V1 crews/squads 1x6-sided die per. 4 companies for V2 crews/squads T6 2x6-sided die per 8 companies for V1 crews/squads Commanders may designate any vehicle crew or infantry unit (squad size) or gun crew as V, limited by the number of V crews/squads they roll for on the above tables. It would be interesting to know how 1st US Army compiled their statistics for weapon calibers, etc. The fact that 53% of the M4's knocked out by At fire were lost to 88mm guns represents a much higher percentage than might be expected since by far the most common German A T caliber was 75mm for both towed and AFV guns! Either the M4's armor stood up much better than most rules portray or some other biasing factor must be present. -- Rod Burr.
