French colonial campaigns are rather neglected because of the lack of source material in English or easy access to sources in French. This list includes some of the major works in English. Essential sources in both English and French are listed in the bibliographies of these books. M. Crowder (ed.), West African Resistance, N. Willis, J.R., Studies in West African Islamic History, Vol. I: Cultivators of Islam, Frank Cass, has been "forthcoming" for most of this decade.
