The campaigns of Rommel and old Monty have always been a favorite on the table top. I have developed a new love for them since moving to the desert here is in Arizona. Here is a variant of sand for those who enjoyed Tafelblitz (See The Courier, #84), but are tired of the eastern front.

AFV Reliability: the Italian 1-3/35, the British A10, Crusader I, II, and III were notoriously unreliable. There for these worthies must roll a D10 when moving within 10” of their maximum speed. A roll of 0,1 means they break down and can not move. They may still fire.
Infantry AT: Infantry’s anti tank ability was not very good. A second number in parenthesis shows their AT ability.
Terrain: The famous sunken waddies are treated as stream for movement, but give cover as well. Dunes are treated as hills. AFVs may “hull down” on dune tops. This forces a +1 to roll against them. Dune contours may be “soft sand” by scenario design. Wheeled vehicles get stuck with a roll of 0-5; they release by rolling each turn. AFVs and Halftracks get stuck for 1 turn only per contour crossing with a roll of 0-2.
