ADVERTISERS NEED WEB SITES I’ve been meaning to thank you for starting up my Courier subscription so promptly! I was particularly glad to see this issue, as one of my interests is the 19th century colonial period. I thought your advertisers might like to know that their ads are the first thing I look at when I get a new copy of The Courier. Wargaming is the only area where I do this, and The Courier has a particularly nice selection. They might also like to know that this reader, at least, rarely makes note of an advertiser who doesn’t have a web site and, even better, web ordering capability. I use The Courier’s ads to update my bookmarks, which, inevitably leads to visiting many of the sites and, well, now you know why I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to pay for this year’s visit to Cold Wars! BTW, I’ve cited Bob Beattie’s obit of Tony Bath in my latest article for The Herald which should be out next month. I’ve also written a little review of Pat Condray’s HMGS history, which reminded me of how much you’ve done for the hobby! Wow! I’m really a late bloomer. Thanks, Dennis - The Hobby needs all of its ‘movers and doers” in each generation to keep it growing. The loss of Tony Bath and Fred Vietmeyer a while back points up the need for new blood to pick up the banner. I appreciate that you are on of those to do so. Dennis has many articles that appear in the HMGS, MidWest HERALD He has been running a series on early wargaming that is a great read! - DICK BRYANT LIKED THE ISSUE - BUT…! Resistance in the Desert was very extensive and well written. I just have no interest in that period. If it had been ACW, Colonial, Medieval, WWII, Normans/Saxons/Vikings, Fighting Sail - it would have been great. I thought of this as a Colonial piece - this issue has the scenarios for gaming the period. It is French Colonial, a pleasant change from the British Colonial period. I would like to do some German and Italian Colonial pieces in the not-too -distant future. We can’t print a major article in every period in every issue but I do try to print articles that have something of interest for anyone no matter what period(s) they game in. - DICK BRYANT Info Missing on Fontenoy Some of my friends have started painting 15mm War of Austrian Succession figures for European armies to go along with my British and Scottish 1749 forces. The Courier, Vol VII, #4 article on Fontenoy has helped a lot - as info on this was is scarce - lots of WSS (War of the Spanish Succession) and 7YW. However, pages 6 & 7 of the article were blank. I bet that they contained a map that would help us refight the battle. Could you please send phtocopies of those two pages? - I’ll have to dig that issue out of the archives - but will be gald to send a copy of the pages along. I don’t have it here in front of me so I hope it has the material you want.
