KUDOS FOR GAMELOFT ARTICLE For me, issue #78 of The Courier was wholly satisfying due to the article about the Game Loft of Belfast. Maine. Thank you for giving the Estabrooks a forum to tell their story. It is encouraging to see peolpe willing to go to such lengths to serve their community while helping the hobby. I'd be interested to see an article by someone who has had success starting a wargaming club or team at a local school. - Eric Kohl I'd like to thank you also for that wonderful article. Anything that puts apositive light on our often misunderstood hobby is all to the good. To see and hear of others helping thier community and expanding wargaming at the same time was both touching and inspiring. While I have not been a subscriber in the past, picking the Courier up at the gamestore, I will however change that after the weekend. You have certainly earned a new subscriber - John I thought the article on the the Game loft was well written. And I think it's great that someone is taking an interest in these kids and showing them that there is a positive alternitve other than sports. - Dan Thankyou John, Dan and Eric, for the vote of confidence - I had quite a few letters from readers taking me to task for giving space over to the article. I also would like to seeaan artilce as you describe about gaming in schools and about teachers who use the hobby to help with their teaching of history. All of these thing help grow the hobby which is to the advantage of all of us who want to see the availablity of the great selection of our toys to continue. - Dick Bryant WHAT DOES MAILING LABEL INDICATE? Recently I was game master for Viking Run (Courier #77) for our local wargames group. We all had a blast. Thanks for publishing the rules. While preparing for the game, I had to come up with a Viking boat for the players to dash towards. Remembering that you had run a Sapper's Report on making one from paper, I went through my old Couriers (yes, I still have them all) and found what I needed on pages 16 and 17 of Vol. 7, #2 (old series). The boat turned out tolerably well. Once we get pictures posted to our web site: ( On another subject, I messaged Leo Cronin twice so far (on Jan 23 and Feb 12 ) to try to get help in logging on as a subscriber to the on-line Courier. I haven't received a reply. My mailing label has the following characters across the top — "C9 79GC90375." What combination do I use to log on? It ried just about every combo I can think of but nothing seems to work. Can you help me?
Thanks for all the assistance and for all you have done to further our hobby. - James (Jim) M. C. Pitts, Jackson, MS
No problem in using and posting the article as long as you mention where it came from. The label works as follows: ignore the C9. the next two digits are your ending issu, #79. the last 4 digits are you IDnumber, 0375. But we have changed the label starting with#78. The issue number and the ID number are clearly called out on the label. this should make it easier to get into the members pages of The Courier Web Site. - Dick Bryant
AND FROM THE GAMELOFT
Dear Dick,
Thank you for running your Civil War miniatures game, "Desperado: Bloody Kansas," for The Game Loft's first annual The Way West Week.
Judging by the number of players crowded into the kitchen and by the expressions on their faces, I'd say that your game was a huge success. Not only did the participants have fun, but they had the chance to learn about history and military strategy. Thank you for taking the time to drive here from Massachusetts and share this game with the youth and adults who were playing.
Thanks also for publishing our article about The Game Loft in The Courier. We have already received some very positive feedback on the article and on the Loft itself. - RAY ESTABROOK
