APPRECIATES THE REVIEWS If no has recently complimented you on the figure reviews, please allow me. Like many gamers, I've always had to buy my figures by the post and that means that I've always had to guess at what I'd get. The Courier's combination of photos, the Barrett Scale and the savvy of the reviewers has really cut down on the guess-work, as well as inspired me to sample lines I wouldn't even have know about. Thanks! TIM BOYD, Lockport, NY. Thanks, Tim. I always felt the the Review Column was one of the most important parts of the magazine. The Barrett scale is an innovation that I would like to see all reviewers, no matter what magazine they publish in, take up. It provides an easy method for determining the fit of one line's figures with another's. A desperate need in this day of profligating scales. - DICK BRYANT WANTS MORE VARIABLE LENGTH BOUND INFO I recently enjoyed the report titled "Once More Into (The Variable Length Bound) Breach..."(#75) I have tried to use the VLB concept/game in the past but never was able to attend a game show where George Jeffrey was demonstrating the game. Please consider Jim Arnold's offer to write up his set of rules on VLB for the Napoleonic Wargame as these rules would be greatly appreciated. - DOUGLAS A. ZIPRICK, Apple Valley CA. Jim put on a VLB game at Historicon this year and it was very well received. I will definitely ask Jim to write more on the subject and if any one knows how to reach George Jeffrey in UK please let me know .- DICK BRYANT WELLINGTON IN INDIA I've been rather submerged in the elections for Scotland's new Parliament and it has taken time for me to realize one of your correspondents in #75 of The Courier was asking for help. Its obtainable through Partizan Press, Eastbourne, England (and most likely through On Military Matters - ED). 2. A book, "Wellington in India" by Jac Weller. A reprint in Greenhill Books Napoleonic Library (No. 24) ISBN 1.85367141X. It was not too expensive in 1993 when I bought it. This is a straight forward history. DAVID BARNES, Argyl, Scotland. Thanks for the information. I'll also pass your letter on to Mr. Liebson. I hope you or your favorite won the seat in Parliament Dick Bryant MORE COLONIAL THEMES I have been a reader of The Courier for many many years. It is one of my favorite magazines. I hope that you continue to improve your articles and quality. Wargames in progress would be great. I do know however that color adds cost and complexity. I think those other Brit mags have that over you and people buy them for some of those great pics. How about more articles for the 6mm gamers out here? The other would be to continue with the yearly "Themes" but maybe for two editions only. It eludes me at the moment but I was thinking you went the whole year with a theme? My personal suggestion is that you feature more Colonial Themes. Not the common Brits and Zulu campaigns but more about the Mahdi, the Boers, and how about some French Foreign Legion actions, etc. I am not saying that you haven't had some of those articles in the past, but I would love to see more. Personally I am a 6mm figure fanatic and I make my own gunboats and run games at our club meetings. I belong to the Colorado Historical Gamers Club. I have my own "homegrown" rules and have many battles against the Mahdi. l will send you some of our after action reports in the future and you can decide if you would like to print them. Hey, remember the articles about "The False Prophet of the San Juans", with the gamers using Sword and the Flame and other rules for the campaign? Now those were some great articles! \endash DANIEL GURULE, Aurora CO. I have been told that readers buy the "Brit" magazines for the pictures and The Courier for the articles. Themes ran 6 issues at 20 pages (or so) per issue and it took all of that to develop the theme. We can't go back to that until I can increase the frequency of the magazine when I retire. Meanwhile send in you articles I look forward to seeing them. - DICK BRYANT Back to Table of Contents -- Courier #77 To Courier List of Issues To MagWeb Master Magazine List © Copyright 1999 by The Courier Publishing Company.
