Practical Wargamer is one of the British glossies, edited by Stuart Asquith. It runs about 54 pages, many in color. The July/August issue has Ian Weekley telling howto build a Roman fort, an article on Landsknecht flags, a description of the action of Mackinnon's Brigade as Busaco with suggestions for gaming, rules for refighting the patrol boat battles of WWII, and introductions to the Sudan and the First Crusade. Reviews, letters, a solitaire scenario, news, and computer games, fantsy, and a solitaire section are regular features. This issue also includes a "history" of a Tolkein battle, with suggestions on gaming it. $28/6 issues from Wise Owl Worldwide Publications, 4134 West 238th St., Torrance, CA 90505.

Miniatures Wargames is the other British glossy, this one edited by Iain Dickie. It, too, uses lots of colorand runs about 48 pages. The June issue has Ian Weekley telling how to build two-foot segments of European terrain, an article on Agricola's Scottish campaign with suggestions for gaming the battle at Mons Graupius, the second of four parts of a history of the British in Greece at the beginning of WWII, an account of Eads gunboats in the ACW, and a game based on one of the preliminaries to Friedland. There is also a role-playing game trying to break Napoleon out of St. Helena, and rules for a modern guerilla game with a player and an umpire. There are also the usual letters, news, and review columns along with a regular column on modern materiel. The Redcoat journal is the publication of The Redcoat Society, and is primarily concerned with the American War of Independence and the French Revolutionary Wars. Included in the Spring issue are articles on the siege of Pensacola (1781), the capture of Tobago (1793), the British raid on Paramus, New Jersey in 1780, and the Battle of Aboukir. Con- tinental Infantry Uniforms in 1776, Piedmontese Light Infantry of 1795, and Vendeean Royalist Colors are also clescrived. Command Post, a newsletter devoted to GDW's Command Decision Combined Arms, and Overthe Top games has begun its second year with a flourish, having expanded to 24 pages. The spring issue included a 24-page supplement providing organizations and charts for WWII Japanese Army for use with CD. A similar supplement for the US Marine Corps in WWII is planned with the Summer issue, and one on the Korean War for the Fall, followed by one on the US Army, Philippine Army, and the Australian Armywith the Winter issue. The newsletter itself is full of alternate rules and clarifications, a scenario for each of the three rule sets, and still more unit organizations.
