The Fix You're In

Retroactive Subs, Coming Up, and Repeats

by Jon Compton

Please Start My Sub With...

Quite often we receive subscription orders containing the words "Please start my subscription with issue X." Unfortunately, we cannot honor such requests, unless the requested issue just so happens to be the next issue that is going to be published. In other words, we do not offer retroactive subs. We still have all of the back issues of the magazine available, and we sell them for the cover price of $6.95 each.

Here's why: When we send a new issue out, it goes as pre-sorted 3rd class mail. The per- issue shipping cost is roughly 35 cents. When we send back issues, they are mailed separately at about $1.45 each. Simply stated, if we allowed retroactive subs, we would lose money, and we are not in business to lose money.

Coming Up

We've altered the schedule for the next couple of issues. Issue #8 will contain Joe Miranda's Crisi's Chechnya. Chechnya has been much in the news lately, so we thought it would be a good idea to do a game on the topic while it was still very relevant. It uses the same system as Joe's well received Redline.Korea game, with some necessary alterations. Issue #9 will feature Cybernauts, the futuristic game of computer hacking that could become yet another Joe Miranda cult classic. Issue #10 will see Mike Smith's Edson's Ridge, a small tactical game of this important battle in the Guadalcanal campaign. Issue #11 is still to be set, but will include one of the titles mentioned here in last month's issue.

Repeat Issues

Many people have received an additional issue of GameFix over and above their normal subscription. From time to time we purchase lists of names from other producers in the industry and send promotional copies of the magazine to those names in an effort to increase circulation. Rather than comb the lists for repeat names, we send a copy to everyone on the list. The idea is that those who get an extra copy will give it to a friend.

Should you get an extra copy of GameFix, please don't call and ask if there's a mistake. There isn't. And please don't send it back. Give it to someone who might enjoy it. They'll thank you, and so will we.
