Sudan Campaign

Wargaming

The Campaign Season is Upon Us Once More. The Long Break is Over.

In 1989, Peter Gilder started a Sudan Campaign, which was serialised in the Wargames World Magazine. This remains uncompleted due to his sad death. Inspired by Peter's idea of such a large scale campaign, I resolved to dust down my Tommy Cooper fez, and get out my bucket and spade and once more start the long hot trek to relieve Gordon in Khartoum.

The mechanics of the campaign will follow those previously used. The rules are being especially written, to allow for full realism and ease of play.

PLAYERS

I am to play The Mad Mahdi (no acting required there!), and General Graham is to be played by Peter Gibbs, a local lad (lad) (Napoleonic wargamer really, but he is taking the pills). Visiting players who have expressed a preference are - Peter Helm of Redoubt Enterprises, The Perry Twins, Stuart Asquith and Duncan McFarlane if he can find the time.

FIGURES AND TERRAIN

25mm is the scale, using the new Redoubt range. They are being painted as you read this, or they would be if I could only find my paint brush.

As for the terrain, we have a 14 ' x 6' table, with more palm trees than Torquay and more sand than Blackpool. The gunboats are being built and them white washed building are being washed.

There will be a comprehensive update in Issue 5 (5 pages in total) when full troop listings and the first battle reports from the front will be given.

It is intended to continue the campaign until it ends, whenever that is. (full colour pictures in Issue 5).
