Issue 12 of Colonial Conquest hits the stands while the major BBC drama series, Rhodes is on our screens. Since new drama with colonial themes is rare enough, particularly on such an epic scale, and with distinct military content, I've devoted the colour content of this issue to it. If that doesn't whet your interest in the adventures of the British South Africa Company and the Matabele Wars, nothing will! Still on the subject of films, Cromwell Films, the independent British film company who made those Battles in History videos, is hoping to make a feature film on the Zulu War. This will cover perennial subjects like Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, but also take a broader look at the war, will include material on the battles of Nyezane, Ntombe, and Ulundi, and will tell the story from both sides. Cromwell are offeringenthusiasts a chance to buy into the film; contribute to their fund raising and you will get to be an extra. For further details, write to Cromwell at Suite 11, Central Chambers, Cooks Alley, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 6QN. Finally, your editor will be giving a talk on Zulu history and the Zulu Wars at the Royal Geographic Society on October 29th, 1997. I'll be sharing a platform with the famous wild animal breeder, john Aspinall, who is an honory 'White Zulu.' Mr. Aspinall is a very entertaining speaker and the evening will include a display of Zulu dancing.
