Enfilade 2003

Sea-Tac Marriott

by Kevin Smyth

As you know by now, Enfilade is in a new location this year. We've shifted our home from the Fife Best Western Executive Inn, which had the bad luck to file for bankruptcy. Deciding on a site was painful and time-intensive process, but in September we settled on the Sea-Tac Marriott. The location is right across the street from the airport. It is now much easier to fly in for the convention. The hotel is very close to the airport, and there is a shuttle that can take you to and from. You no longer have to worry about renting a car if you just plan to game your heart out. It's also closer to Seattle, for those of you who hated trying to get through Federal Way on the way to Fife.

The Marriott is simply a nicer facility. The game space is divided between two ballrooms. It is a bit less than we had in Fife, but it is more nicely appointed. There is easy communication between the two rooms, and it should be somewhat less noisy, for those who are sensitive to such things.

When you don't feel like gaming, but want to hang out with a buddy, there is now a comfortable place for you to do that. The Marriott has an atrium design, so you can sit in a plant-filled, comfortable, quiet place, away from the gaming area, not in a restaurant or bar. The pool is also located in the atrium if you're in the mood for a swim.

Kelli and Tom are the Marriott staffers who have worked really hard to understand our needs and meet them. They really want our business, and would like a commitment after this year. It is reflected in some of the things they've been willing to do. They got free parking for visitors to the convention. Those visiting, but not staying at the hotel do not have in and out privileges. If you leave, you'll have to pay to park a second time. Hotel guests have their parking included in their room costs. At this writing they are also working with me to provide low cost dining options to Enfilade attendees. We will have a lunchtime concession on Saturday, and Kelli is working with the chef to provide a low price dinner menu. Yukon Landing is the classy restaurant, which is very nice, but some may find it costly. There is a nice bar and a coffee stand that offers quick and cheap breakfast items.

When I announced the rates, they were stated as $87 per night. In February group rates were restructured and our room rates decreased to $76 per night, still including parking. That is an incredible deal for those who are staying. However, it is imperative that those who are staying reserve their rooms as soon as possible. These rate are guaranteed through May 2"d, and we have committed to rental of 50 rooms per night Friday and Saturday. As of this writing we have reserved 17 rooms per night. I cannot overemphasize the importance of meeting our room commitment, so if you plan to stay at the Marriott contact them as soon as possible.
