On September 29, NHMGS and the Museum of Flight in Seattle joined together to sponsor a game day at the Museum of Flight. This was the second year that NHMGS was able to put on the game day. This year’s event had four gaming tables, a static display table, and an information table in the Museum’s East Gallery. Due to the events of September 11, 2001 there were some changes in the originally planned games, but there was still plenty to keep everyone interested. The games included the Battle of Nassau Tavern (an AWI battle presented by the South Sound Grenadiers), ironclad and WWII naval actions, a Berlin Airlift scenario, and a 1930s air racing game. The games showed the wide variety of interests and topics covered by NHMGS and proved popular with the museum clientele and staff. The information table provided good information about the different aspects of our hobby. On display at the information table were miniatures from several eras, rules, reference material, and terrain. Paul Hannah provided and excellent display showing the steps used to take a miniature from out of the package to ready to play. The guys at the information table and those putting on games did a great job explaining the hobby and NHMGS organization to everyone that came out to the museum. We were pleased with the turnout at the event. There were a lot of familiar faces, which was nice to see, and there were some new ones joining in the games. The pre-event advertising seemed to help with the attendance. I spoke with several people that read about the game day in the Museum of Flight News or saw an NHMGS flyers placed at local hobby shops. The Museum of Flight game day is one of the few opportunities where NHMGS can get out and show off to the general public. I want to thank everyone that came out and made this a successful event for both the Museum and NHMGS.
