Enfilade

by Norris Hazelton

Enfilade has come and gone. Another success for us, congratulations to one and all. Thanks to Kevin S. and the great convention staff. Special mention for Greg M. for so many hours handling registration. The presence of so many young gamers at Enfilade was very pleasing.

Rolling up quickly is our September event at the Museum of Flight. Last year was great and hopefully we can do as well or even better this year. Look for more details elsewhere in this issue.

Our post-Enfilade meeting went very well. We identified some areas that are causing concern because of our growth and others that are the result of changes in our hobby. Hopefully we will be able to address them to the satisfaction of the membership. We are working on a major change in the Flea Market, because so many people seem so unhappy with the present Flea Market. More as that develops. We appreciate all the responses on the Yahoo.Group and we will use those responses and suggestions to craft the new Market. The temporary change in the Enfilade date did not bring a significant change in attendance up or down. Remember, next year we will return to Memorial Day weekend.

The Enfilade silent auction appears to be moribund. At this time there will be no silent auction at Enfilade, 2002. The lack of participation and lack of items in 2001 do not warrant a continuation of the event. Thanks to Dick L. for his time on the 2001 auction.

The ASL Tournament has requested more space for next year. We are seriously considering moving them to the next largest room. We are going to make sure the room is available and then we'll crunch the numbers to make sure that space will be adequate for this year.

We are also looking at ways to make the painting competition a more vibrant and relevant part of Enfilade. We have some absolutely fantastic painters in our midst. Getting them to enter the competition is the hard part. As part of this effort we will need to revitalize our Best Presentation efforts and provide awards in a timely fashion. More on this as time goes by.

Unfortunately, our Breakthrough venue didn't want us. Therefore, NHMGS, Trumpeter, and Columbia Games are working feverishly to find a new spot. This is a totally unforeseen circumstance and please bear with us in this matter. We will do the very best we can. Each organization is putting forth its best efforts to solve the problem. Steve P. (VP Central) is working hard to locate an Auction site for 2002. He is looking in the Greater Seattle area. Our Auction last year was a great success. However several of our people North of Seattle and in Seattle have requested a location in the Seattle area. If Steve P. can find one at a reasonable price, then we shall do so. By the way if you have not thanked Eagles of Tacoma, you should next chance you get.

I want to personally thank all of the people who have worked so hard to make NHMGS so successful over the last year. All the credit belongs to all the workers who labored long and hard to make it all happen. Special thanks to all the membership and all the participants who make it all possible and worthwhile.

Now, we just have to do it all over again.
